Cipla Ltd launched a triple drug cocktail for HIV/AIDS by the brand name, Triomune on Monday, August the 6th 2001. Triomune is a combination of three antiretroviral drugs - Stavudine, Lamivudine and Nevirapine.
Triomune is the world's first fixed-dose formulation containing a combination of 2 widely used nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (stavudine and lamivudine), with 1 potent non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (nevirapine). Triomune can be taken twice daily, irrespective of food.
It is an attractive combination since the three drugs are often prescribed together in the US. However, the combination is not produced in the US or Europe.
It must be produced by a generic manufacturer as Stavudine, lamivudine and nevirapine are each under patent to different pharmaceutical companies, and could only be produced in the US or any other country that follows the GATT patent laws, is if there was an agreement between the companies to co-market.
Cipla also manufactures Duovir-N.
Duovir-N is the world's first fixed-dose formulation containing a combination of 2 NRTIs - zidovudine and lamivudine, with 1 potent NNRTI - nevirapine. The launch of this combination product drastically reduces the daily pill burden, from 6 (2 × Zidovir-300) + (2 × Lamivir) + (2 × Nevimune) to just 2 pills a day taken irrespective of meals.
Duovir is also manufactured by Cipla.
Duovir is a combination of two drugs commonly used in the management of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infection. Both lamivudine and zidovudine belong to the nucleoside analogue class of antiretroviral drugs. Both drugs act by inhibiting the reverse transcriptase enzyme of HIV, and by terminating the growth of the DNA chain. Lamivudine in combination with zidovudine has been shown to have synergistic antiretroviral activity.
Viraday is another combination HIV drug manufactured by Cipla.
Viraday contains the active ingredients Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate, Emtricitabine and Efavirenz that slow the replication of the HIV-1 in the body.

Efavir is a non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NNRTI) of HIV-1. It is used in combination with other antiretroviral drugs for the treatment of HIV-1 infection.
