 Scopoderm TTS - General Information

Scopoderm TTS constitutes a new method of using scopolamine in the form of a patch which is applied behind the ear. Scopoderm TTS provides a programmed release of the active substance through the intact skin into the bloodstream over a prolonged period of up to 3 days. This transdermal therapeutic system containing scopolamine is designed for the prevention of motion sickness, such as can occur when travelling by boat, plane, train, or car, and which gives rise to nausea, dizziness, and vomiting.

Directions

Always use your patches as instructed by our doctor.

You will need to put one patch on 5 to 6 hours before leaving on your journey. Alternatively, you could put your patch on the evening before your journeu if this is more convenient.

First, remove the patch from the sachet. Peel off the clear, hexagonal plastic backing, holding the patch by its edge so as not to touch the sticky side.

Press the silver coloured sticky side of the patch firmly on to a clean, dry, hairless area of skin behind the ear. You should avoid areas of skin that are cut, or that are irritated in any way.

Now wash wash you hands thoroughly.

Do not touch the patch once it is in place as you may get hyoscine on your fingers.

When you journey is over, take the patch off and dispose of it carefully. Each patch will last for up to 3 days. If you are travelling for more than three days, replace the patch with a new one after the third day.

When you take the patch off, wash your hands and also the area of skin where the patch has been.

Provided that you have applied the patch properly, you can swim, bathe or shower with little risk of it coming off. However, it is best not to stay in the water too long.

Overdosage

If you use too many patches, you should tell your doctor or go to your nearest hospital emergency department immediately. Take any remaining patches with you.

Missed Dose

If you accidentally forget to put a pacth on, apply as soon as you remember. Do not apply two patches at once to make up for the one you forgot.

Side Effects

These patches may cause unwanted side effects in some people.

If you experience any of the following symptoms, or have any other unexpected symptoms not listed below, please tell your doctor as soon as possible.

  • visual disturbances (inluding glaucoma) or hallucinations
  • irritation of the eyelids
  • dryness in the mouth
  • irritation of the skin at the site of application

Rarely, side effects may occur after you have taken your patch off. These include

  • headache

These symptoms are more likely to occur if you have been wearing a patch for several days. If you are affected in this way you must not partake in any activities requiring concentration, for example driving, or operating machinery until your symptoms have worn off.
